Aircon Group recently carried out an air conditioning unit replacement for Teesside International Airport.
The airport had an old air conditioning system that was no longer in use, and with the expansion of the airport and growth in passenger footfall, they wanted to start using it again.
We proposed replacing the old unit with a cassette twin system that could provide both cooling and heating. The unit was located in a ‘sterile area’, where travellers pass through security. Due to the location of the unit, our engineers needed security clearance, and their vans needed to be checked on a regular basis.
When the old unit was in use, it used R22 refrigerant, which is now banned from use. The Aircon team filled the new air conditioning unit with an alternative refrigerant, which will not be affected by the upcoming F-Gas regulations in January 2020.
As the unit was in a busy area, work was timed to take place between flights to ensure no passenger delays. Our engineers carried this out with full support from Teesside International Airport’s maintenance team, working out of hours as required.
The project took three and a half days to complete. Even with the additional security requirements, the project was completed on time and to budget.
